APW – Illinois, Bunn Special with rare bright spotted damascene, 23J, 16S, gold-filled OF original Wadsworth "Railroad Model" case with attractive engine turning and engraving detail, white enamel DS Gothic numeral dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, jeweled barrel, bright spotted pattern nickel damascene, s#2572686. The bright spotted damascene was the first pattern used among 16 size Bunn Special production. This damascene is rare among 23 jewel 16 size Bunn Specials with a total of 510 produced in three different variants; the present example represents the earliest of these three variants and has an estimated total production of 200 made. Mvt: GRO, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous surfaces, some oxide to perimeter of larger winding wheel and in small bits on regulator assembly; excellent dial with very faint outer chapter hl at 3:30; fine hands appear to have been re-painted; case shows little wear, scattered tiny nicks along band, no dents, engraving detail shows only a very minor reduction; tight bow, crown shows little wear; glass crystal with a scuff and with scattered scratches.
